About Us

The American Health Foundation (AHF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded by health care professionals and community advocates dedicated to avail medical, psychological, social and educational resources to individuals with special healthcare needs lacking access to this care. We are very excited to introduce the foundation’s project for Children with Autism and Other Related Disabilities which was established to improve the lives of patients suffering from these disorders and their families.

Autism Spectrum Disorders are part of a larger family of disorders known as Neurodevelopmental Disorders. They are characterized by impairments in delays of developmental milestones, social interaction, communication and language, as well as altered emotional behaviors. They comprise a wide range of severity of symptoms. Many medical conditions can accompany these disorders. These include digestive problems, severe allergies, inability to detoxify, very high rates of infection, hearing problems and vision problems.

Autism spectrum disorders affect as many as one in 88 children nationally. It affects 3 to 4 times more boys than girls3 and it is as common as juvenile diabetes, and more common than childhood cancer, Down syndrome, deafness, or cystic fibrosis4. Neurodevelopmental disorders are, in general, of the most common disorders encountered in pediatrics. However, many treatments for these disorders are not covered under the majority of insurance plans. Moreover, as these children transition to adolescence and adulthood the services significantly drop.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) reports that early intervention is crucial for any effective treatment of these disorders. The AAP strongly advises intervention as soon as a diagnosis is seriously considered, rather than waiting until a definitive diagnosis is made. The report further states that these children should be actively engaged in intensive intervention at least 25 hours per week, 12 months per year, as long as delays are present.

We will continue to strive and expand American Health Foundation’s programs offered to the community. We hope that you will be able to take part in one or more of the many exciting events that we are offering starting this year and in the upcoming year. Our wish is for you to experience firsthand the pride we take in supporting our cause.

AHF’s goal with its Children with Autism and Related Disabilities Project is to offer high quality comprehensive services provided by teams of professionals who understand the complexity of autism spectrum and neurodevelopmental disorders while excelling at treating the associated medical conditions that can vex these children and their families.

It is our mission to support the community by providing these services that historically have been scarce. In order to meet our mission and provide services in our community, we rely on the generosity of individuals and businesses for support. Without the assistance of community-minded individuals just like you, we wouldn’t be able to serve those in our community.

We ask that you make a commitment to support by making your charitable monetary and/or in-kind donation. Your contribution is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. We hope that you will be able to make a contribution. Your generosity will make a difference in the lives of the children, their families and our community by allowing us to continue in our work.

Remember that every donation makes a difference, regardless of size. Thank you in advance for your support!
